“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” – Confucius
Recently, my husband and I attended the Hill School graduation. It was a chance to meet 5 Hour Energy founder and philanthropist, Manoj Bhargava ’72. Although his commencement speech was a bit unconventional for this traditional family boarding school; it was extraordinarily impactful – just like his business results. Consider this fact, 5 Hour Energy is the largest dietary supplement in the world and Manoj gives more than 90% of his wealth to charities.
Follow Unconventional Paths
Manoj who spent twelve years as a monk, made no secret that to do exceptional things in life and to achieve your goal demands that you follow unconventional paths. More important from his perspective, is to ask challenging questions and evaluate everything through the lens of common sense. Sounds so simple but . . .
Our Answers Lie in Our Questions
Manoj approaches business ideas differently and through the lens of two questions that lead to an answer. “Is it useful? And is it simple to execute?”
Often in the busyness of life, it is the tyranny of the urgent (stuff) keeping us from what is important. Resulting in less focus and productivity, and an inability to thrive and reach our potential. We somehow insist on a conventional path making life and business complicated. But according to Confucius and this 5 Hour Energy CEO, life is really simple.
