What Do You Need to Let Go of Today?
My newest coaching group started a week ago, and I found myself with six dynamic, creative and inspiring professional women. While confidentiality is key to the success of the group, I can tell you that they do share their unique gifts and challenges with each other in pursuit of doing great things.
Here’s what we learned last night about success: You need to let go of where you are to get to where you want to go.
Often we cling to the security of our “comfort ledge” because we want safety and control in our lives. But in truth that is what prevents us from discovering what awaits us in the future. Your “comfort ledge” may take forms, both concrete and intangible; such as hanging onto an unfulfilling career, inaccurate beliefs, unhealthy habits, ill-feelings, unpleasant relationships, or inappropriate goals. Bringing these into awareness helps to diffuse them so you can focus on where you want to go.
Later that night, the group agreed to discontinue their old behaviors and set new inspiring and exciting goals for their future.
As an executive coach, I often share with clients the story of the monkey and the bananas. If you want to do great things, you have to free yourself and let go of the banana in the jar. It is all about letting go.
